Who is this course for: This course is intended for individuals seeking their first or second renewal or have not taken it before. If you have taken this course previously and are seeking a second or higher renewal, please view Ethical Foundations for Certified Peers seeking Renewal Level II or other Ethics courses from the library.


Course Description:

This course is designed to solidify your understanding of the core competencies, including the four domains of peer support, and deepen your knowledge of ethical principles and practices.


Through an interactive exploration of role drift, professional boundaries, and the Code of Ethics, you’ll gain tools to navigate complex situations with confidence and integrity. Strengthen your foundation in the essential principles of peer support and recovery coaching, and build your capacity to continue making a meaningful impact. Whether you’re seeking renewal or want to enhance your expertise, this course will empower you to thrive in your role and continue growing as a trusted recovery professional.


Course Objectives:

  • Gain a concrete understanding of SAMHSA’s working definition of recovery
  • Explain the importance of Social Supports in peer work, as defined by SAMHSA
  • Apply the four core domains of peer support as outlined by the IC & RC
  • Define and recognize role drift to maintain clarity in professional boundaries.
  • Build confidence in ethical decision-making and navigating complex scenarios.
  • Strengthen foundational peer principles to support long-term professional growth and peer service delivery.

If your address changes between now and the date of mailing, please notify us to ensure you receive your manual. Additional charges may result if not notified.

  • In the event you need to reschedule after registering for a Choices course, a $20.00 rescheduling fee will be required.
